THE PRESS HAS SPOKEN

The Yellers—who alternate between the modifiers “Old” and “Auld”—are relative newbie’s having formed in 2000. But their deft Americana is at least four decades old, recalling the boogie of Canned Heat, the sweet melodicism of the Band and the nimble guitar work of the Grateful Dead.

Matthew Singer, Willamette Week, 2009

The Old Yellers [American Roots Music] are something to behold.  This band isn't just old timey, laid back, sweet country sounds of yesterday.  No Sir!  They are also foot stompin, rabble rousing, hootin and hollerin good time rock and roll music of here and now.  They have it all, great harmonies, tender ballads, and nothin but good times.  You just get yourself down to catch them if you can.

Burlingame Review, May 2017.

The Old Yellers strike a balance between making a political statement and making music. Their motto: “it’s not about making money, it’s about making friends”, stands true but judging by their amazing vocal harmonies, incendiary guitar work and fantastic songwriting, this band is also about making great music.  Their forthcoming album is a great work of outlaw country and rock and roll.

Irish Examiner, Cork Ireland, June 2019

A roots rock band from Portland, Oregon, The Old Yellers are a talented group of musicians/songwriters that combine the stomp of a backwoods hoedown, whiskey infused honky tonk, high-energy rock and roll, and sweet ballads with solid songwriting.  Their large repertoire of original music fits in perfectly with tried and true traditional songs and all the classics.

Curtis Waterbury, CitySearch, October 2005.

The Old Yellers have earned a solid reputation over their twenty years of gigging. They represent what is great about live music. Solid vocal harmonies, great songwriting, diverse instrumentation and a get the room up dancing vibe. They can segue from fine ballads to outlaw country rock and roll while all the while homing back to the honky tonk. This band simply rocks. This Americana roots rock is down-home goodness at its finest.

Root Man, Roots Rock Blog, June 2020

The Old Yellers [AMERICANA] have several things going for them. Michael Berly who's deep, expressive voice and gregarious presence on and offstage draws talented players and appreciative audiences alike. Musicians like Matty V Hartless and Diego Joyeux, who make music come to life in a way that is palpable to everyone who attends their impressive live shows. And nowadays, Berly has his acupuncture practice to fall back on in case the above come to naught, which is unlikely.

—Jeff Rosenberg, Willamette Week, June 2018

The Old Yellers are coming to Galway again for another triumphant return to the Crane Bar.  The band has been here multiple times and always plays to a packed house who simply don’t want the band to leave, demanding encore after encore in an effort to keep the music going. Miss their return this Friday at your own risk.

Galway Review, Galway Ireland, September 2015

PORTLAND, OR Friday, March 17 at venues across the kingdom, McMenamins will offer live music, Irish dancing, and even a bagpiper or two in celebration of St. Patrick’s Day. Bring the kids, friends, and family and raise a rousing cheer for ol Paddy with our seasonal Irish Stout, handcrafted using green, eco-friendly energy.  Again this year, back by popular demand, The Old Yellers grace the stage mixing Irish music, Americana, great ballads, and rock and roll with original songwriting.  This band of talented musicians puts on one heck of a live show every time they hit the stage.  If last years show is any indication of what is to come, prepare for all manner of hullabaloo and jubilee.
